Online OMISS Net Information Pack
The information contained on this page is the same as what you would
receive if you sent a #10 SASE to the Information Officer, so you
will be able to print it online rather than have to wait for the mail
service, if you so desire.
WELCOME TO THE OM INTERNATIONAL SIDEBAND SOCIETY (OMISS)
We hope you will check in often; it is for your enjoyment. The main
objectives of the net are to promote good will, to pass emergency,
formal and informal traffic, and for members to work each other
for awards. You do not have to be a member to check in or to use
our FREE QSL Bureau, but you must be a member to qualify for our
awards. All contacts for awards must be made on the net.
For a "hard copy" of information on OMISS, send a #10
size SASE envelope, with two units of first class postage, to:

Please include your county and grid square with your other info.
Make check payable to OMISS. Dick will send you a Certificate of

International Money Order or U.S. Currency.
HOW TO USE THE FREE QSL BUREAU
(Need NOT be an OMISS Member to use.)
The OMISS has a FREE QSL Bureau for all stations, members and non-members,
for confirmation of net contacts. Please QSL. Members working for
awards need your confirmation. Do not wait to receive cards before
you send. When you have enough outgoing QSLs to fill an envelope,
send them in along with some SASE's, with one or two units of postage
each.
Please use only #10 business sized envelopes when sending SASE's
to the buro. This helps with organization, and 99.9% of all cards
fit in them without the need for folding.
* NOTE - DX Stations need NOT pay any postage. The Buro picks up
the tab for all DX Stations.
When there are enough cards coming to you to fill an envelope, the
bureau will send them out. QSL cards with cross-outs, write-overs,
erasures, etc., will not be accepted for awards. If you make a mistake,
throw the card away and write a new one. Write the month as the
abbreviation rather than the figure. If the frequency is in MHz,
be sure to put the decimal in the right place. Since we use UTC
time format, the starting date for 75M, 40M, and 160M nets is one
day later than the calendar date. (This may or may not apply to
DX Stations.)

Net Control Stations Needed!
Please contact
if you can help out once in a while or regularly.
How the Net Operates
When you check into the net, the Net Control station places your call
sign on a list. The net Control station goes down through the list
and gives each station two calls (or one, if the list is long) to
any station that they heard and want to work.
When you call or are called by another station;
give your call sign, name, state, and OM number (if you have one).
You may also be asked for your county and/or grid square, so please
have them handy. Then give a signal report. The minimum acceptable
signal report is 2 x 1. If the station has called you and given
a signal report, acknowledge the report and give them one back;
example: "I roger your 5 by 9. You are also 5 by 9." Net
Control needs to hear both stations acknowledge the correct signal
reports for the contact to be "a good one," making the
call "official." 1 Net Control (or a relay for Net Control)
can help fill in any of the information about the other station
except for the signal report.
OMISS Awards - General:
All awards are available to OMISS member stations only. Contacts
made by a member with a non-member are valid retroactively if and
when the non-member becomes a member, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, such
as on WAS and DX Awards where Membership is NOT required to be worked
towards an award. Non-members may use contacts made with members
retroactively after they obtain a OMISS Membership number. All contacts
must be made on net frequencies and during net times to be valid
for any of the awards. Unless otherwise specified, only log info
need be sent in qualifying for the awards. (Although there are on-line
forms available for your convenience - these must be printed and
mailed in via US Postal Mail; not submitted electronically.) Signal
reports are not required in info sent, but must be included on any
required QSL cards submitted. In unusual circumstances, the Awards
Manager may require QSLs to verify log information. The ARRL countries
list will be used for all awards based on countries worked.
Contacts for all awards may be made on any of the
bands used by the OMISS net. Unless otherwise stated, all awards
will require a $4.00 fee. Endorsements require a $3.00 fee plus postage for return of
required QSLs. Single band endorsements are available for the WAS
awards only. If the original application for these awards shows
that contacts were made on a single band, it will be endorsed for
the one band at no additional charge.
Awards are numbered sequentially, in the order
issued. Contacts submitted for qualifying for any of the awards
may be made on any of the nets of the Society. Log information sheets
submitted for awards will not be returned since they become part
of the record if the award is issued.

Why the QSL Card?
All through life we carefully preserve documents and valuable papers
showing that in such and such a year, on such and such a day, some
important event took place; events such as the day we were born.
The QSL card which the ham finds in his/her mailbox
is tangible proof of a worthwhile event and accomplishment.
Without QSL cards, there would not be any awards
such as DXCC, WAC, WAS, etc., and your pride of accomplishment would
not be recognized.
Not everyone likes QSL cards. Some are not "interested."
Those of us who take the trouble to send QSL cards certainly indicate
that WE WANT YOUR CARD. I am sure that most amateur operators feel
the same way about this as I do. To make the QSL chore a little
easier, many stations send along IRCs or a green stamp to the country
worked, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope.
QSLs make us happy! Won't you send your card to
those you work on the net? Use our FREE QSL Bureau!
